Turn LinkedIn Interactions into Real Conversations

law social mediaThe benefits of social media for law firms have been well documented in our previous blogs but one aspect that remains under-appreciated is the manner in which law firm social media strategies convert simple online interactions into real, face-to-face business in a remarkable way.

Let’s take a look at the process of turning an online conversation into valuable real-world meetings using the popular platform LinkedIn.

Why LinkedIn?

As a dedicated professional networking site, you will find that LinkedIn users are very receptive to interacting and sharing their business needs with you. By proving your worth in groups and through recommendations, you’ll find that those interactions turn into very real benefits and offers for your law firm.

Unfortunately, it’s no good jumping into the networking pool without a tactical law firm social media strategy in place – like all other social networks it will eat up your valuable time and energy if you do!

Groups

The many LinkedIn groups that exist for lawyers and law firms are a fantastic resource for refining the flow of connections you make and the value of the people you interact with.

  1. Join groups dedicated to your legal services and post information while answering questions to build your authority and visibility to other users in your field.
  2. Nurture connections with other users of the group you feel are valuable by taking time to answer their questions and offer your expertise on common issues.

Recommendations

Once your network has grown and your authority is established within the groups you have joined, it’s likely that other users will contact you for recommendations for whatever problem they are facing. Be generous with your time and connections and your kindness will be reciprocated in the form of endorsements and recommendations for you and your law firm. The more you give, the more likely it is that you will get something in return.

Continue the conversation offline

While LinkedIn is an effective, intuitive way of establishing connections with social media for law firms, the best way to develop new business relationships is to take the conversation offline.

Suggest a meeting that allows you to talk face-to-face with a prospect without the need for onsite messaging. You’ll find that most LinkedIn users are happy to meet and talk – after all, that’s what they use the site for too – and will be keen to learn from the expertise you’ve displayed in groups and through your interactions with them.
